Failte Ireland Tourism Development Grant 2009-2010

Progress 2010

Initial works have started at Russborough which include Disabled access, toilet facilities, and disabled lifts. These are well underway and are scheduled for completion by the end of May

Developments
In December 2008 the Minister for Tourism, Martin Cullen, announced the provision of Tourism Development Grants for six key visitor attractions including Russborough House & Demesne.
The first phase of the Failte Ireland funding is now in place and over the next 12 months or so Russborough will see a number of exciting improvements both in terms of infrastructure improvements to deal with higher visitor numbers that are now visiting Russborough and also to improve the variety of the visitor attractions themselves.

The projects to be undertaken and completed by the end of 2010 include the following;

  • The introduction of wheelchair access to Russborough House & the Kitchen Garden Cafe and the provision of disabled facilities. This will facilitate universal access to the wonderful guided tour at Russborough.
  • The creation of a unique unguided exhibition in the basement at Russborough to complement the existing guided tour of the house itself. It is planned to exhibit a range of memorabilia from Sir Alfred Beit’s archives including his film , 3D photographs and music collections.
  • The creation of a children's playground adjacent to the substantial Beech hedge Maze. This will provide additional facilities for children and make Russborough a more appropriate visitor attraction for family groups.
  • The restoration of Anne's Garden which was Sir Alfred & Lady Beit's private garden but which will be restored for public viewing & appreciation.
  • The replacement of the waste water treatment plant to facilitate future visitors to Russborough.

During the course of the next 12 months we shall regularly update these pages to reflect developments as and when they become available to the public. Watch this space !

Updates on the refurbishment will be provided on the website over the winter months.
