The West Wing Refurbishment - 2010:

New Beginnings at Russborough after the Fire in the West Wing - May 2010.

Following the fire damage to the West Wing in early February 2010 great progress has been made. Restoration is progressing under a temporary tarpaulin and it is anticipated that the scaffolding will be removed within a few months in order to restore the facade at Russborough to its previous magnificence.  The West Wing is being converted to create self catering accommodation for visitors under the stewardship of the Irish Landmark Trust. It is anticipated that by early 2011 the restoration will be complete and the accommodation will be available to domestic and international visitors alike.

Announcement 9th September, 2009

Sir Alfred and Lady Beit purchased Russborough in 1952 to hold their famous art collection and they resided in the main house itself for many years. However, in 1978 they relocated to live full time in the West Wing so that the main central structure could be used for guided tours which continue to this day. The 'West Wing' has been unused for many years but the Alfred Beit Foundation, which owns Russborough, is now refurbishing it with the kind assistance of the Apollo Foundation. By Easter 2010 it is hoped that the "West Wing" will be fully refurbished and available for short term holiday lets.

The marketing and operation of the West Wing as short term holiday lets will be kindly undertaken by the Irish Landmark Trust which, like the Alfred Beit Foundation, is a charitable trust incorporated as a not for profit organisation. All net proceeds from letting the 'West Wing' will be used for the day to day upkeep of Russborough - the most beautiful house in Ireland.

Updates on the refurbishment will be provided on the website over the winter months.
