Russborough House & Parklands is the perfect place for your school tour or alternatively to improve your education as an adult.

Based in Blessington, Co. Wicklow, we offer the opportunity to learn about Ireland and combine your learning with fun, interesting activities and the great outdoors. With plenty of space for little ones to let off some steam, we’ve put together some great school tours and packages filled with the best features and events that our historic house and parklands have to offer.

School tours for Primary School 

For children ages 5 to 8 years (€5.00 per child): Tree Trail, Maze, Fairy trail & Playground

For children ages 9 to 12 years (€6.00 per child): Guided House Tour, Maze & Playground

The Art Room

Now offering an extended programme, our children’s art classes are facilitated by Kate Dick, who is a visual artist and National Gallery of Ireland tutor. These enjoyable and fulfilling classes foster creativity in a unique setting.

During each workshop, a different theme from Russborough House & Parklands will be creatively explored using a range of different art materials. All materials are supplied for the classes. 

The Art Room at Russborough is supported by the Alfred Beit Foundation with art materials kindly sponsored by Barker and Jones, Naas.

A guided tour of Russborough is an education in Irish fine art and architecture

A guided tour with an expert guide is an excellent way for you to discover Irish architecture, art, interior design, and collecting as well as sociability and display from the 1740s. You are also able to learn about the way the house was constructed by wealthy Dublin brewer Joseph Leeson, the first Earl of Milltown, right up to the present day. Notwithstanding the gift of their priceless collection to the State, some 50 paintings and drawings from the Beit and Milltown collections are on display in the house. Lovers of art, architecture, furniture and objects d’art are sure to love Russborough House & Parklands. Just some of the highlights that you can see are as follows:

  • Predating 1753, Madame de Pompadour's water spaniel made especially for her in the Vincennes porcelain factory
  • Magnificent Louis XIV tapestries
  • A 16th century lotto rug from Anatolia in Turkey
  • A Scagliola console table top from Vallombrosa, dated 1750
  • Marie Antoinette's gilt bronze microscope by Gozzi of Parma, dated 1772
  • A fine collection of French clocks
  • Two antique pianos - a Steinway™ dating from 1896 and a Bluthner™ from 1926
  • A substantial part of the Beit art collection
  • Original paintings of the house dating back to 1950 that belonged to the First Earl of Milltown

The primary objective of the Alfred Beit Foundation, which owns and operates Russborough House and Parklands in County Wicklow, Ireland, is to promote and further the advancement of education in the fine arts of Ireland.
