Collector Circle

Inspired by the great collectors associated with Russborough- the Beits and the Milltowns, who not only donated significant artworks to the National Gallery but whose legacy to Ireland include the historic collections still on view at Russborough. The Collector Circle acknowledges the great contribution collectors have made to Ireland’s cultural heritage and the funds generated support the conservation, restoration and presentation of the collections – art, furniture, porcelain, silver, books and photography. As well as the benefits accruing to our benefactors, members of the Collectors Circle will be invited to boutique events including: The Artist’s Table - meet some of Ireland’s best known contemporary artists at an annual dinner. Lecture Series – industry experts will advise on aspects of collecting including fine art for investment, organising, presenting and editing your collection, and tax incentives for art collectors

Annual subscription: €2000

Conservation Appeals

Russborough is an independent museum and charity, with an internationally significant collection of the fine and decorative arts, open to the public seven days a week for ten months of the year. The extensive work that goes on behind the scenes in bringing the Collection to life through research, exhibitions, education, community work and conservation is funded thanks to donations from our generous supporters. Details of our current conservation appeals can be found here.

Sponsor an Urn- €750

The seventy-six ornamental urns are positioned on the parapets and the wings at Russborough. They are one of the most striking features of the House. The urns are composed of Portland stone and limestone and comprise five different designs featuring various types of foliage, scrolling, fluting and topped by filials. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the urns benefitted from two major restorations. The works carried out at that time involved the use of Portland and Roman cement which would be regarded as inappropriate today. As a result, there has been some water ingress and corrosion of the original iron fixing pins.

In 2005, six of the 76 urns were restored with assistance from the Irish Georgian Society and a private philanthropist. While this was an extensive and time-consuming project, it has provided valuable information to guide the restoration methodology for the seventy urns still to be repaired. It is hoped to finance this conservation programme through fundraising efforts.

The Alfred Beit Foundation is appealing to individuals or corporations willing to sponsor the restoration of an individual urn, or indeed, a group of urns. A permanent dedication listing the names of each sponsor in recognition of their support will be displayed in the colonnade.
