Job Description

Role title:
Part-time Retail Assistant (with some Front of House cover)

Role purpose:
At Russborough, the award-winning lifestyle shop and front of house reception are central parts of the visitor experience, and are considered important tools in broadening engagement with the house and collection as well as promoting the Estate as a site of beauty, culture and knowledge. The successful candidate will ensure that these values are safeguarded and that attention is given to them.

The Alfred Beit Foundation (ABF) is a registered charity that manages and operates Russborough. All income generated by the shop, café, house tours and the carpark is invested back into the upkeep and maintenance of the Estate. The ABF is heavily reliant on strong and consistent shop sales to support Russborough.

The ABF is seeking a Part-time Retail Assistant to support the day-to-day running of the retail operation by delivering excellent customer service and helping to meet sales and operational targets.

Responsibilities of the Part-time Retail Assistant will include:

Sales & Performance

  • Support the achievement of sales targets and KPIs
  • Upsell products and membership and promote events/activities where appropriate
  • Monitor stock levels and report trends or issues to the Head of Finance and Marketing Manager
  • Visual Merchandising & Stock
  • Maintain visual merchandising standards
  • Receive, check, and display stock
  • Carry out regular stock takes in addition to the end of year stock tak
  • Inventory control
  • Full compliance with Food Safety requirements in the retail area
  • Act as a brand guardian to ensure consistency across the breadth of our offering
  • Liaise with suppliers in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist in the curation and buying of new, creative and on-brand stock

Customer Service

  • Deliver high-quality customer service
  • Handle customer queries, complaints, and escalations professionally
  • Ensure the shop floor is welcoming, well presented, and customer-focused

Operations & Administration

  • Open and close the store as required
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure daily duties are completed efficiently
  • Assist with roster planning
  • Manage cash handling, tills, and end-of-day proceduresEnsure compliance with health & safety, security, and company policies
  • Assist the Head of Finance in all areas relating to stock control and on-line systems, Shopify and EPOS
  • Work with our café and Front of House team to ensure tours and group requirements are serviced
  • Ensure customer service and standards are best in class
  • Carry out all duties with efficiency and motivation, as per department SOP’sAd hoc duties as per business requirements

Online Support
Social Media posting for the shop as per agreed plan with the Marketing Manager
Ensure product data is up-to-date on the shop website
Prepare, pack and post online orders
Respond to customer queries

Person Specification

It is expected that the successful candidate will have the following qualifications, experience and skillset:

  • At least 2 years of retail experience
  • Experience of Electronic Point of Sale system
  • Excellent knowledge of the retail environment including purchasing, sales, merchandising, stock control and supplier relationships
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have schedule flexibility to include working weekends, at events and providing holiday cover
  • Working knowledge of social media posting
  • A good understanding of the tourism sector
  • Highly organised, multi-tasker
