The Alfred Beit Foundation

Sir Alfred and Lady Clementine established the Alfred Beit Foundation as a registered charity in 1976 to safeguard the house and collections for future generations, and to support the advancement in the Fine Arts in Ireland.

It is a private charitable and educational organisation, governed by a Board of Directors, with charitable status granted under reference number: CHY 5940. The Foundation owns and manages the house, park and collections, supporting itself through its own fundraising and commercial activities. All income goes towards carefully maintaining this precious historic, architectural and cultural resource for Ireland and its visitors.

The mission of the Alfred Beit Foundation is to promote and further the advancement of education in the Fine Arts in Ireland. At Russborough it achieves this by:

  • Maintaining, restoring, protecting, developing, conserving, improving and permanently preserving the historic fabric, collections, character and atmosphere of Russborough and its parklands, together with its environment and amenities for the benefit of the public.
  • Aspiring to become a centre of excellence for education, research and public engagement with fine art in Ireland.
  • Developing, preserving, cataloguing and making accessible the collections of the Alfred Beit Foundation.
  • Interpreting and promoting Russborough to the research community and the general public.

The Foundation's Annual Report for 2020 is available here.
